Guest blog by Rike from Hamburg
Hi, I am Rike you can also find me @kaffeemitfreunden , a coffee, food and travel blogger from Hamburg, Germany. I love Hamburg and I love coffee, so I’m happy to share my favourite and the best coffee spots in Hamburg with you today. As I’m interested in Specialty Coffee, most of my recommendations are specialty coffee spots. Enjoy!
I’m starting this guide with my favorite place in Hamburg: Elbgold. It’s located in the popular Schanzenviertel. Elbgold does not only serve great specialty coffee, delicious cakes and bagels, but it is also a roastery which is just in the same location. I like the atmosphere a lot.

Playground Coffee is a specialty coffee bar within a burger restaurant. They serve great coffees, all roasted by themselves. Regarding design they have one of the best packaging design I know! Check their website for more locations.

NORD COAST COFFEE ROASTERY
„Nord Coast Coffee“ is a spacious specialty coffee bar close to the city centre, the harbour and the Speicherstadt. Delicious self-roasted coffee and awesome food options like waffles and avocado on bread.

PUBLIC COFFEE ROASTERS
Public Coffee Roasters is a coffee roaster with a small specialty coffee shop in the Neustadt area. Great Flat White! And, you can also read and buy Independent magazines at their café.

BALZ UND BALZ
„Balz und Balz“ is a specialty coffee spot owned by two siblings. Apart from delicious coffee they care a lot about homemade food. Just to name a few dishes: Bircher Müsli, Granola with fruit and quark and a variety of rustic open faced sandwiches called ‘Stulle’.
Balz und Balz | Lehmweg 6 | 20251 Hamburg
„Tørnqvist Coffee“ is run by Linus Köster, a passionate barista who focusses on light Scandivanian roasts. During summer he drives around Hamburg in his beautiful VW Van and sells coffee on markets and festivals. During winter he runs a pop up café in Sankt Pauli.

„Milch” is a café located near Hamburg’s harbour, so you can have coffee and a little bit of sightseeing afterwards. They serve specialty coffee from different roasters.

My last recommendation is more about food than about coffee. Hej Papa is a great breakfast spot in the Neustadt area. And I like the interior a lot!
