10 x the best views in Amsterdam by @Dutchie

Hello! @Dutchie here! Today i’m taking you along for ten of the best and most photo worthy views in Amsterdam. Are they the most cosy places filled with locals and totally off the beaten path? No, not really. But there is a reason everyone wants to go see these places. And some might well be less known to the masses than others.

These are the best Instagrammable views in Amsterdam!

Let me start with one of the most obvious places, but also one of the views I rarely see photographed by non locals. It’s all about perspective, and especially during April (Tulip Festival), when tulips are scattered along the street, the Damrak is a gorgeous place. Change the angle a bit and what more stunning to see than the typical Amsterdam architecture with some tulips in frame as well. If you are thinking about all the tourists, which are many again change the perspective a bit. This photo was shot during rush hour on a weekend day. Another solution would be waking up early. Be out before everyone else is out. This way you can enjoy the beauty of this cities most visited places without the masses. Trust me, it’s a whole new world (ok, city) when you do so.

Next up is the Brouwersgracht / Prinsengracht corner, crooked Amsterdam architecture at its finest. Want to make it even more perfect? Again, make sure to arrive early. If you manage to do so, and there isn’t to much wind the reflection in the water is mesmerizing.

I always advice people to stay away from the flower market. I can hardly think of a bigger tourist trap than this place. On the other hand. I do love the view from the back. Plus it twice has the words “love me” written on it. So, tell me, what’s not to love about this view?

What about some views from higher places that provide you with some stunning views over the city?

If you can find a way up, the view from the “Silver tower” is amazing. It’s right next to the Central Station and overlooks part of the Singel canal. This is a more unique location as it’s not open to public so you will somehow need to find a reason to being there.

While on your way to the next location, the location with what might well be the best view over the city, do not forget to admire the view of Amsterdam’s highest church from the ground on up.

Are you enjoying the best views in Amsterdam by @Dutchie?

After arriving at the Westerkerk and enjoying the view along the way it now is time for a work out. Yes. It will take some effort getting to this one, as there are quite a few stairs to be taken before you reach the top but this might well be the best aerial view in town. The good thing is they only do small group tours up there so you won’t be bothered by an overflow of people once you reach the top.

Now that the trees have turned a bit green, can I have this view once again please? I’m again looking for some inspirational accounts, and I know its always a struggle for instagrammers to tag others somehow, but if you have any accounts to share, pref city / portrait / streetphotography / accounts with diversity, non Amsterdam / New York / mega obvious accounts, that would be A-Maaaaaa-Zing and very much appreciated. Or just tell me who inspires you. That’s also something i’m very much interested at. Thank you! (If you like I can share some of my favorite accounts as well. In a later post tomorrow for example.) ????????

Back on the ground there’s two main streets that I totally love. One is the Utrechtsestraat, and the second the Haarlemmerstraat. The last has multiple great views and is in one of the best neighbourhoods in the city if you ask me.

As cliche as it might get but the Amsterdam Canals are not to be missed when looking at the most photogenic places. We all love to be original and find new and undiscovered places. We all say there’s more to this city than its canals and architecture, but nobody ever goes without capturing at least a few shots at these canals.

And while canal hunting, how can we pass up on the Singel and finding some reflections with one of the most beautiful views in the entire city?

We passed some “love me” signs earlier didn’t we? How about the below one?

I’m curious to hear if you agree with my selection here and what your favorite Amsterdam view is! If you think you need a few more recommendations on photogenic locations, make sure to head over to my blog at www.justdutchie.com.

Installing Instagram when it came out, and picking up photography soon after has changed his life in ways he could have never imagined.  Camera in one hand, the hand of his (now) 3 year old son in the other looking for stories everywhere.  Dennis tries to make his photos speak for themselves, and what they tell will vary to whomever looks at his work. Photography is a form or art so we all see and feel something different when looking at an image.
