Foodhallen Rotterdam just opened and celebrated its Grand Opening last week Wednesday!
As expected, it was a great evening, filled with live music and food, lots of food! Those who know Foodhallen Amsterdam, may already be familiar with its concept: an indoor food hall where the city’s finest cuisines come together under one roof. The perfect place to hang out when you all crave for something different, but still want to enjoy it all together.
During opening night, each cuisine offered portions of their signature dishes for you to indulge. There were so many to choose from that I really didn’t know where to start. As a dessert lover I have been eyeing the cupcakes from Ten to Three Bakery the moment I walked in, but I managed to pull myself together and started with something more dinner appropriate, like the Pork Bun from Baomazing, which was truly amazing! Love the crispy and sweet marinated pork and the super soft bun. Next stop was la Pizza, and let me tell you, it is one of the best pizzas I have ever had! I am beginning to think that it is even better than the one I had in Italy! The pizza came straight from the oven, super fresh, with that perfect, not too crispy thin crush and the right mix of savoury ingredients on top.
I wished I knew the name of the pizza, but I was too busy enjoying it that I forgot to ask.
Burgers & Ballen
Then I had a burger from Burgers & Ballen, a bite size lobster hotdog from Foodshed , never tried lobster hotdog before so that was interesting, pork belly from Texas BBQ, if you are a meat lover then I think this is for you, croquette from Txosta and of course I couldn’t leave before tasting the delicious limited edition lemon berry cupcake from Ten to Three Bakery. I wished I had unlimited space in my belly, because then I would also try Viet Yam, their Vietnamese snacks really looked good, Backyard for some vegan goodness and Indonesia for Indonesian signature dishes. Those last three I will for sure keep in mind for my next visit, along with my most favourite: la Pizza!
All in all, I think that Foodhallen Rotterdam is definitely worth a visit. They have a variety of delicious dishes, ranging from Western to Asian to Fusion. And for me, the best part of it all, it’s indoor! No need to worry at all about the weather, you can come here any time of the year, even on those cloudy, rainy, stormy days. And let’s face it, on those days, food is the best and only comfort right?!
