Not a lot can keep me away from a freshly made donut. Or three. So when it came to my attention that there was a new kid in town and I would be in that town for the day, it just made sense that we should meet. I skipped lunch and headed straight to Peejays Doughnuts in Amsterdam. Baked just outside of the city and delivered fresh every morning, Peejays boasts a delicious selection of donuts that would rival any US donut empire.
So many flavours
A proud family business that started with an inspiring overseas trip and the brothers noticing a gap in the Dutch market for homemade donuts. As I sipped on my coconut chai, Saska, the sweetest doughnut sitter, introduced us to their super lekker lineup. Making decisions is hard for me at the best of times so it wasn’t made any easier with a line up like this….
Doughnuts for breakfast
I went for vanilla disco, lemon meringue and the daily glazed special for lunch in-house. The berry glazed, choco caramel sea salt, maple syrup pecan, cinnamon sugar & crème brulee coffee custard came home with me. Even with doughnuts being at their finest on the day of baking, these babies made for a fine breakfast feast the next day. After discussing our favourites with bellies full of dreamy donuts, my fellow donut taster and I agreed that the maple syrup pecan, berry glazed and vanilla disco were the front-runners.
Filled, glazed, sugar-dusted or vegan, Peejay’s sweet delights will have me hopping on an intercity direct on a regular basis. A girl never forgets a (doughnut) dream experience like this one.
